In case you didn't think I could possibly get any more pointless with my updates, here is a new Thing that has come into being due to the following three points:
#1 Recently, I found myself introducing folk metal to people who had never heard of the concept before. This saddens me, because folk metal is a truly glorious genre and everyone should have it in their life.
#2 Jon Boden, legendary legend of legends (otherwise known as vocalist of folk group Bellowhead, amongst many other projects), has been running an awesome website called A Folk Song A Day. It's ... well, self-explanatory, really.
#3 Work was really, really boring this morning. I had plenty of time to contemplate being pointless.

When these points were regurgitated after being mangled together in my brain, they came to this conclusion: every Sunday (daily would get very old, very fast), I will post a random folk metal song. You will listen. You can listen to it if you want to. And, uh ... yeh, that's it. A disclaimer: this is not meant to be a definitive guide. I do not know anything about music. I just know what I like. AND I LIKE JIG PITS. *troll dance*

Today's song is my favourite from the new Falkenbach album (the first in six years), Tiurida. Falkenbach are a German band, often pegged as 'viking' metal with black metal elements, and have been active since 1989. Which is not bad going, really. Although when you've only got one permenant member, I don't suppose the usual band dramas are going to be an issue. :P Tiurida is a much mellower offering than the previous Heralding - The Fireblade, which saw Tyrann of Vindsval (Lux)/Ordo Draconis/Dregoth/Nibelland lending his vocal talents as a session-screamer (is that even a job description? Ha). If you're not a metalhead or you just hate shouty growly raaawwr, then this will be more your sort of thing - this album is much closer to the folk than to the metal. A beautiful and catchy song that gets inside your head; I often find myself humming it.

Ohhh, what a wonderful idea! <3

Though, haven't I heard this song before? Have you posted it before? It sounds so familiar...

Yes, I raved about it when the album first came out. But it's so good I thought I'd mention it again. :P
