100 Photos Meme: day 3

I've entered the International Cat Care photography competition with this photo; I'm not entirely sure I understand how the judging works, as on the site it says the winner will be decided by a panel of judges, and yet each photo has a 'vote' option on it ... so, just to cover all the bases, could you pretty please vote for me? The top prize is a weekend at a wildlife park, in Kent, to photograph big cats up close ... and they have lynx. LYNX. Also Pallas Cats, which I adore but have never seen in real life before. You have no idea how badly I'd like the opportunity to photograph my beloved lynx up close...!

Anyway, here's my third photo for the 100 meme. After handling it to take pictures, I had to put my Two Steps From Hell music on to give this item the reverence and majesty it deserves. :3

This beautiful book is my first edition of Jack London's The Sea Wolf; my favourite story - and character - of all time. It is 109-years-old and was a Christmas present to me from Ben. I wanted to photograph the page containing my favourite quote, the "diamonds and rubies" conversation ("He does not lose anything, for with the loss of himself he loses the knowledge of loss"), but as it's at the end of a chapter it left me with a lot of blank page. So I used this page instead, containing one of my favourite pieces of dialogue. I'm not sure if that smudge was original - i.e. an error in the printing process - or caused by a previous owner. Either way, I'm strangely fond of it.

I have never even heard of that book but now I want to check it out.

I also love the photograph. I can see me having something like that framed on my wall.

I love the book mainly because of Wolf Larsen; he's just ... incredibly written. He's this wonderful juxtaposition of brute strength and high intellect. I have to warn you that there's a stupid and pointless interlude (it was slammed by critics at the time) where the narrator and some bird end up all lovey-dovey, but luckily Wolf comes back before the story finishes. :P Ha.

Thank you! I'm actually working on a project where I will soon be selling my photography, and as that is one of the photos I intend to use I could maybe send you a print if you really like it.
