Oh yes! Screw you autumn, baleful harbringer of winter and the gloom that waits beyond! TODAY WAS A SHORTS AND SUNGLASSES DAY. It was with great reverence that I removed my shorts from where they had been lain, carefully folded, at the back of the draw; I had not thought to see them again this year. Welcome back, old friend.

Actually today's weather was doubly awesome, because when I woke up we were shrouded in thick fog. I love fog, even more than sunshine; I used to get it a lot back home, and I miss it. Or rather, I miss being late for work in the morning because I was taking photos of Pepsi in it (see icon). I thought today would be an "omg look at my fogbound photos" day, but I actually took very little - few that were worth revisiting on here, anyway. By the time I finished my morning chores it was clearing up, but that was oki because it left glorious sunlight in its wake. We had highs of 21c.

I walked 9 miles today; partly because I had to walk over to the next village to put some money on our electricity meter, and partly because I walked the long way back from the stables this morning in order to avoid the workmen down the road from our flat. They weren't being horrible or anything, it's just that their creeper level was advancing and I was getting increasingly anxious about having to walk past and interact with them. Another fun part of being me! ;)

Anyway, some landscape photos (and a couple of horses. And a lizard or two).

Cash and Iris waiting expectantly as I walk up the field this morning.

Shame about the fence being in the way! Ponies, gooning.

I love how Iris has this lovely, elegant trot going on, and Cash is just this rotund little puffball bouncing along at her side with his happy ears on.

Cash has an "omg - do I need to run away from something?" moment of anxiety.

My longer walk home began with me weed-whacking my way through this maize field. I am on an actual footpath here, by the way. Also, there's something inherently sinister about a field of maize, isn't there? Or maybe I've just watched too many films.

After changing into my beloved shorts and making a quick lunch (I made akoori. Except without chilli. Or tomatoes. Or cumin seeds. Or coriander. So basically, I made scrambled eggs with onion, garlic and curry powder), I set out onto the common.

I love the colours out here.

Going down!

I joined up with the boardwalk, which is my favourite part of the journey. It's a nice, easy stroll, you get to see lots of wildlife, and I like to pretend that I'm walking in the Bronze Age (I give Flag Fen as my reasoning behind this little make-believe, but also I'm just a bit of a weirdo).

The dragons lizards were out today! Yay sunshine!

I love this little guy's cheeky expression. :3

I didn't realise at the time, but in all my photos of him this little dude had his foot in the air. I wonder why? Too hot for all four feet at once, maybe? Although his belly is touching the wood, so you wouldn't think a single raised foot would make much difference...

Looking out across the water.

This is a bad photo - it was in shadow and the current was moving swiftly, so I had to just point and shoot before it moved out of sight - but I rather liked the visual metaphor at play here. My heart goes with the wandering stream. ;)

On the way back I was flagging (I've not been feeling very well lately), so I missed out the boardwalk and took a more or less direct route back across the common. I really liked the different bands of colour, here.

Recent badger activity! They've been making home improvements, and have dug out a whole load of dry, golden sand.

Lovely pictures! Thanks for sharing. Just the right amount of atmospheric gloom in the horse pics. :-)

I am too tired to process thoughts into words anymore.

But the fog! Amazing! Lovely photos all around. You're livin' the life.

What beautiful photos! I love the heart shaped leaf on the river concept. Also, I hope you feel a bit better soon.
