DITL: Saturday 28th September 2013

I have a confession: I love doing DITL posts, and I'm going to start doing them again on a regular basis ... probably once a month or so. I put all my pictures into mini collages in order to avoid a massive image spam, which would happen otherwise because gods' know I don't need an excuse to take a lot of photos. So here's one from last Saturday!

Technically, my day starts with me going to bed at silly o'clock and reading my new-old book while I wait for Ben. The book was a gift from a friend and is 155-years-old.

I initially woke up at 9am, but then fell asleep again only to wake much later ... I may have spent some time just staring at the opposite wall before I dragged my butt out of bed. I did take a 'what's the weather outside?' photo, but to be honest it was so dismally grey it's really not worth reproducing here.

Ben is up already and making drinks (tea for me, coffee for him. Blueeeghh). I shower etc. and have breakfast/lunch - Oatibix, with hot soya milk and sliced grapes. Tastes better than it looks.

The postman calls - my Shire-themed notecards are here! :D I've sold three packs of these already, hee. They feature Harvey (left) and Stanley (right). I dick around on the internet for a little bit, hang Ben's shirts to dry in the window (we really need to put up our washing line...), and then we head off to the stables.

Iris comes in first, and she and Ben have a play as they cross the field. I don't feel too bad about arriving late for morning chores when horses live out 24/7; it's not like they're hungry and waiting to be let out of a stable. Plus there are people around so an emergency would be spotted.

Unfortunately their groundwork session is interrupted when Iris is accidentally bopped on the nose by the lariat. She breaks loose and I, the photography vulture, take the opportunity to get some pictures of her very impressive paces. She was completely unharmed btw, although Ben suffered a bit of rope burn!

Back together again quickly, and all is forgiven. Once it's clear that Iris isn't traumatised by the rope, they progress to a little ridden work before ending the session on a high note.

Then I have a play with Cash! I make Ben catch him for me, though. :P

I put Cash back in the field, we move their fence a little to give them some fresh grass, and then it's off to Sussex.

Ben teaches a lesson with Heidi, a friend's lovely little Irish mare, and on the way home we stop off to buy food at Sainsburys.

Snack time - Roquefort cheese on crackers! Yum. We prepare our roast dinner and head back to the stables while it cooks.

Dinnertime for ponies! It gets dark so early now. D:

We dick about with torches and slow shutter speeds, move the fence again, and head home.

Dinner isn't quite ready yet, so I take the time to feed my mice and try on my ridiculously soft and fluffy jumper that I bought from Sainsburys. Sooooo snuggly. We also have a cup of tea, out of our matching pony mugs! I need to make Ben an Iris one...

Dinner and a movie! Roast crackling pork, roast 'taters, roast parsnips and veg, followed by homemade apple crumble. My boy spoils me. <3

Cup of tea (or two) and some more dicking about online. I also remember to note down my stepcount (I haven't been doing too well in the latter part of September!), and feed Bulmerhoe ... he is in there, he's just mostly buried by dirt.

Bedtime (can I get some Danger Mouse pajama love? :D), and I read some more of my book while I wait for Ben to come through. This page includes poetry 'for the young', and one such poem ends with the line: in the valley of death you will triumphing cry, "If this be called dying, 'tis pleasant to die!" Good ol' Victorian Britain. :P G'night!

Hehe, thank you! DM and Princess Bride are just one of those timeless things, I think, that appeal to both adults and children.

Lovelovelove photos!

re: Iris and the lariat... haha, we always point out that our ponies, Faran in particular, are especially stunning when they're mad. ;) It's like, the best time to take photos would be when Faran is really pissed off about something, because she puffs herself up real big and runs around looking gorgeous. Or else when there's cows around. Same difference.

And I accidentally hit her once on the nose with a lunge whip and we had a few seconds that looked a little like that. So I can relate. ;) (except for the rope burn, because, ahem, gloves... :P )
