List meme: day ten

Haha, oh god. This one went on forever. You can just skip to the photos if you like (but don't worry - I don't have a photo for every single pet)! Master list for meme is here.

Pets I Have Had
Cats: With the exception of the past year and a bit, I have always had cats in my life. Shortly before I was born my parents were adopted by a stray female, who then turned out to be pregnant and gave them a litter of kittens. The last of these kittens died when she and I were 22. Since then my family have acquired four feral kittens, two of which are still alive. I don't have cats now because Ben doesn't like them, and as sad as it is not to have a cat in my life, I am being a responsible adult about it and not just going out and getting one anyway. Being a responsible adult sucks.
Past cats: - Beeblebrox (the original cat)
                    - Blackie (was mostly black)
                    - Whitie (was mostly white)
                    - Wimp (was a rough tough tom)
                    - Fearless (was a scaredy black cat)
                    - Pork Pie (was a vegetarian)
                    - Seefer (tiny black cat who loved sleeping in my bed)
                    - George (grey and eternally baffled. Also female)
Current Cats: - Loki (thinks deep, sad thoughts)
                          - Pimms (talks constantly)
I think that's all ... I seem to recall that we had an awful lot of cats when I was young, but maybe it just seemed that way.

Rabbits: My first pet (not counting the cats, who belonged to no one but themselves) was a black rabbit who I'd creatively named Rabbit (I was a toddler at the time, give me a break). Then some years later my brother and I got what we thought were two male rabbits, until my one had babies. Oops. Also, it turns out that a female rabbit only needs to be impregnated once, and if the first litter doesn't survive (she ate them because we disturbed her. Horrible, but we had no idea they were even there until I went to clean her out one day) then they can have another. Unfortunately, these ones were stillborn. Or maybe it was the other way round?
       Past rabbits: - Rabbit (black)
                            - Badger (my brother's; he was a cool mottled mix of black, grey and brown)
                            - Tigger/Trisha (my sex change rabbit. She was a brown and white lop)

Guinea-pigs: When I was about 7 or 8, my best friend (the same girl who used to own Pepsi and my first pony, Lacey) had guinea-pigs and her family used to breed them. Or maybe they only bred one litter ... I can't quite recall. Anyway, I ended up with two boy babies, who I was really excited to have but later regretted it slightly. One of them used to actively try and gnaw his way through my jumper when I picked him up, and I was terrified of handling him because I didn't want to drop him and hurt him/let him escape, but I also didn't want him to bite me! Later, in my teens, I adopted Steph's guinea-pig who was much nicer.
Past guinea-pigs: - Smudge (the jumper-eating one. He was brown)
                                  - Sebastian (I was obsessed with The Little Mermaid at the time. He was black with a brown stripe)
                                  - Gucci (Steph's guinea-pig; she was black and brown and long haired)

Horses: My first pony was Lacey, who I had on loan from age 9-10. She was a sweet mare and I do think I let her down quite a lot by not being knowledgeable enough, but most of my memories of her involve her bolting for various reasons and me inevitably falling off. On the plus side, whenever I did fall off she would stop dead and wait to be caught! Then came Pepsi, a year later; originally I shared her with a friend, but once we got to secondary school boys and make-up and being part of the in-crowd took precedence for my friend and Pepsi became mine completely. I was bullied from age 11-16 (mostly by this 'friend' and her new mates), so Pepsi was my confidante throughout most of this. When I was 15 my mum finally realised her childhood dreaming of owning her own horse, in the shape of 16hh coloured cob Joshua. He was a very sweet boy and I rode him sometimes, too. Then we kind of had Argyll, a Clydesdale who was offered to us for free; but he needed corrective shoeing (he'd had laminitis in the past and his pedal bones pointed upwards. Weird, I know), so he just lived with us for a few months until a forever home was found for him. The other heavy we were gifted with is of course Beatrice, who is a truly fantastic mare. I'm also counting the two gingers, who weren't mine but they lived with me for several months and I took on all their daily care, including getting them used to handling and, in Flash's case, carrying a rider.
Past horses: - Lacey (11hh grey Welsh A mare. Would be 26 by now)
                           - Joshua (16hh Gypsy cob. Sadly put to sleep due to a degenerative ligament injury)
                           - Argyll (17.3hh Clydesdale who died naturally earlier this year)
                           - Dinky (11hh chestnut Welsh A mare, now a child's pony known as Pumpkin)
                           - Flash (13.3hh chestnut gelding of indeterminate breeding)
Current horses: - Pepsi (13.2hh, 29-year-old bay mare. One in a million)
                               - Beatrice (18hh bay Shire mare, 18-years old. Accidentally destructive)

Rats: My first rats were a gift before I started secondary school; I'd wanted some for ages, so mum and dad said I could have two once I came back from a school trip towards the end of Year Six. Since then, pretty much all my ratty friends have been accidental!
Past rats: - Sirius (black with blue eyes; one of the originals)
                        - Orion (grey and white; lived until he was nearly 5, believe it or not!)
                        - Bad Habit (black and white female)
                        - Bellatrix (black and white female)
                        - Beatrix (black and white female. The last 3 were sisters; I often got them confused)
                        - Eve (orange and white; adopted from a co-worker who no longer wanted them)
                        - Fat Rat (Eve's paler sister)
                        - Candy (orange with red eyes)
                        - Twin One (Candy's daughter; brown and white)
                        - Twin Two (Candy's daughter; as above. All 3 adopted from a co-workers daughter who no longer wanted them)
                        - Żaba (ex lab rat)
                        - Gruba (ex lab rat. Adopted from co-worker whose daughter had owned Candy!)

Hamsters: I am glad to say I never went down the typical childhood pet route of getting a Syrian hamster, because my mum knew better! They're pretty vicious bastards, I really think that rats make much better pets for kids. But anyway. Instead of a big angry sleepy hamster, I bought two Roborovskis a few years ago; again, I thought they were both boys, buuuut one turned out to be a lady so I had baby hams. I'm sorry to say that I can't remember what any of their names were; I think one was Diego, but to be honest I couldn't tell them apart so they were all just 'Ham' to me...

Mice: After Gruba died, I decided not to get any more rats because by that point I was looking to move out and I knew that I might not be able to find a place that would let me keep rats (or, indeed, a place where I could actually fit a rat cage). So my mice, bought a year ago, were the compromise! I do miss having rats, but now I'm not sure I could ever be without mice - they are just endlessly entertaining. You don't need a TV when you've got a group of mice playing in a freshly cleaned out cage.
Past mice: - Polly (very tiny brown and white girly)
                         - Lofty (black and white girl; never did tame her)
                         - Tonker (black and white)
Current mice: - Jackrum (eternal, fat and awesome. Grey and white with red eyes)
                              - Cariad (tiny, black, velvet-soft and full of energy)
                              - Merida (skewbald; named for initial adventurous nature, now very shy and retiring!)

Frog: The one and only Bulmerhoe. A leaving gift from work. :)
Lacey and I, out on a picnic ride.

L-R: Tonker, Polly and Jackrum, with Lofty loitering in the background.

Beatrice two years ago with her daughter, Magic.

Pepsi, photographed this summer and looking pretty good for an oldie!

It's not because I don't like cats, it's because we live in a flat that is actually smaller than a cat and there would't be room for any of us to move if we had one. When we live somewhere bigger, we can have a cat. Also I'm not a particular cat fan, but I am a big fan of Sari which is more important to me.

awww I love the rats, of course.

My list will come in the next few days but I won't be able to name alllllllllllll the rats, because I bred them and had so many.

Sold! :( She went away for a while, because the staff at the farm centre weren't really knowledgeable enough to handle a Shire yearling, and when I asked recently how she was getting on I was told she'd been sold. :(

Makes me miss my russian dwarfs and gerbils. My last gerbil, Alek was a plain grey turtledove (I think that's the term for the color). He lived almost six years despite losing his tail tip, having a tumor on his belly, and breaking a leg (not all at once mind you!). At one point I knew all their names, even when I had 20 gerbils at once, but most of them are lost to memory now.

I'm just going to say that is an awesome collection of pets XD. So ma cute and adorable things.

I do have to say I don't like cats, although that's not strictly true, I like other peoples cats and will happily sit and cuddle friends cats when they decided to sit on me, I've just never wanted one. All your cats look like they would get cuddles though.

I have always wanted a rat, but mum hates them, so I have to wait till I get my own pet friendly place. I used to look after the schools science rat Chaos though, he sat on my shoulder during Chemistry lessons.
