List meme: day eleven and twelve

Today I worked solidly for ten hours; no lunch break or a chance to sit down until I came home (cycling between jobs does not count as sitting down!!). As I've now started on a well-earned glass of whisky, here is some meme catch-up as it doesn't require me to think too much. Oh: also, I just remembered that I missed gerbils off the pet question earlier (I had two). Anywho. Onwards!

My Favourite TV Shows
We don't actually have TV (well - we have a TV set, but no TV channels. We only use it for watching DVDs or for connecting the Wii too), and I only have two shows that I would make time for. But I do love my DVD boxsets and random YouTube provided episodes...
1. Sherlock (nobody is better than Brett, but Cumberbatch comes very close)
2. Doctor Who (my enthusiasm for this show waxes and wanes)
DVD
3. Sherlock Holmes (ITV version with the glorious Jeremy Brett)
4. Jekyll (the third Steven Moffat show on this list!)
5. Dexter (I loooove it except for when emotions get involved. None of that please)
6. Ashes To Ashes (only seen one episode of Life On Mars; I should fix that!)
7. Being Human (BBC. First series is best; second series alright; third series wtf)
8. Sharpe (who doesn't love Sharpe?!)
YouTube
9. Horrible Histories (this show is AMAZING)
10. The World's Strictest Parents (my new guilty pleasure)

5 of My Favourite Quotes
1. "He does not lose anything, for with the loss of himself he loses the knowledge of loss." -- Wolf Larsen (The Sea Wolf, Jack London)
2. "It's not that you make people take risks, it's that you make them want to impress you. You make it so they don't want to let you down. You have no idea how dangerous you make people to themselves when you're around." -- Rory Williams (Doctor Who: The Vampires of Venice)
3. "In the world to come, let us be brave – let us walk into the dark without fear, and step into the unknown with smiles on our faces, even if we're faking them." -- Neil Gaiman
4. “How can you be happy in this world? You have a hole in your heart. You have a gateway inside you to lands beyond the world you know. They will call you, as you grow.” -- Ursula Monkton (The Ocean At The End Of The Lane, Neil Gaiman)
5. "I wish Captain Vimes were here. He wouldn't have known what to do either, but he's got a much better vocabulary to be baffled in." -- Sergeant Fred Colon (Guards! Guards!, Terry Pratchett)
Another favourite quote of mine is the final line from Moonfleet, by John Meade Faulkner, but it's a pretty big spoiler so I won't repeat it here in case anyone wants to read the book (you should. It's wonderful).

I had the exact same feeling with Being Human. I loved the first series, was kinda disappointed with the second series and then the third series? I just gave up :(

I have to admit something. I have never seen Sharpe, not even five minutes of an episode flickering through channels. I have no idea what it's about even.

I feel out with Dexter. I think it was the emotions thing.

I adore Doctor Who, always have and always will. I also find Cumberbatchs Sherlock to be the most amazing thing on Tv ever, I have never seen the Jeremy Brett version.

I adore the Terry Pratchett quote. How did you only pick one? I could never pick just the one Pratchett quote. Although I pretty much go mad for anything City Watch related.

I definitely think you have earned the glass of whiskey. I hope you enjoy it :D

What is Horrible Histories? It sounds really interesting! Again, we could watch TV all day together without issue. I love all of those shows, too!
