Heavy on the photos.

So late on Friday, after finishing work and feeding my pony and completing the 4 hour bus-train-walking journey to The South, I arrived at glenatron's and he cooked me the MOST AWESOME MEAL EVER. Pheasant in bacon and soaked in perry OM NOM NOM. <3 Heh. He'd also bought me a really good book exploring the Anglo-Saxon (and I think Celtic and Viking?) myths behind Tolkien's Middle Earth. I'd only read a few lines before it had solved a NaNo related problem for me, but unfortunately I left it behind because I am a class A idiot.

Saturday morning, we headed out to a gorgeous stableyard where Ben was to help with a client's new horse. Unfortunately, the horse, Bob (brilliant name), was a bit bruised as he'd been spooked by a hot air balloon while being boxed over to his new home, and Ben decided he was just too sore to work with. So instead he did some work with the owner's other horse, a gorgeous big mare called Georgie.

Ben using the flag to get her attention. I was official flag holder of the day. Ben was like: "Can I have the flag?" and I was like HERE, TAKE IT, AND GODSPEED! Yehh man. That's me. I don't like to brag, but I'm good.

She had a beautiful trot.

Friends in the end!

We stopped by Waggoners Wells on the way home, which is an absoloutly beautiful place. It's a National Trust reserve, with lakes set amongst woodland and oi loves it oi do. Just checked Wiki and apparantly they were created in the 17th century. Sweet! Although I like to pretend it's all natural...

The light was gorgeous.

Reflections in the lake. Very much a place for magic, I think.

I can SEE Corbeau or Oshono'il standing here! I can imagine them perfectly.

Oh em gee, just look at that water.

Wait - what's this? An ælf! :D I will make him mine.

NOOO! DON'T GO INTO THE FAERY POOL!

We then went to Ben's stables and said hello to his ponies and brought in little Cash and Ben rode him a bit and then he let me ride him, too. :D Which was super awesome and very brave of him to let me sit on his carefully trained steed. He also gave me a little lesson of sorts which was a valiant try, because my basic response to most equitation terms is: "Bluhhh...?" Turns out a lot has changed in the 20 years since I learnt to ride. I am slowly coming to realise this. I mean, I stopped regular riding lessons about 10 years ago; have had some on-and-off since, but more off than on. This is partly because I have yet to find a decent school and also because the price of a half hour lesson these days makes me D: and remember that I have horses that I can ride for free.

Also, me trying to ride a 14.2hh pony is hilariously bad anyway (honest to god, I can not get it right. I'm so used to riding 17hh+ with that different draughty movement, and these days if I get on anything normal I'm totally lost at sea), but me trying to ride a 14.2hh in Ben's I AM A GIANT stirrup leathers is even better. He was like, "Put your heels down!" and I'm like "I'M TRYING. FFFUUUUU."

Ben and Cash in the afternoon sun.

:3 <3 Hee...

Cash is a pretty little pony.

Zoom! Cash is the fastest!

<3 <3

XD Ohhh my gods. Feel so shame. I think what really bothers me is that I pride myself on heels down and toes in AT ALL TIMES, usually. What is this. Really, what is this. Sorry, Cashtaroth.

We fed Ben's ponies, then made the journey up to mine where we fed my pony, watched Solomon Kane (omg I love that film <3) and went to sleep.

The next day, it was Shire time! Elf had asked me to exercise Jake, and I wanted Ben to meet him and also see the horses again - particularly Magic, who is growing up fast. I'd just tacked up, when everyone else turned up - and as Mo and Sarah said they'd ride out with me, I asked if there was a spare horse for Ben too (I'd felt too cheeky to ask before). So Elf let him ride Harvey. :D

Mo and Sarah helping Ben get on. They altered his stirrups for him so Dave decided to tell me that Sarah was fiddling with my boyfriend... :P

Big grin!

Out on the bridleway. I would've taken more, but most of the rides round here make use of the roads, and it wouldn't have been safe. Or fair on Jake, who's still learning and would have been a bit confused by my continuous shifting of balance, ha.

Jake back in the barn. He is a handsome big hoss.

Ben with Harvey. Ben has this habit of making the Shires look normal sized...

Ben out in the field with Jake (Jake is 19hh! Ben is making him look small! NAUGHTY BEN).

And with Harry.

...Oh noes! Photobombed by Murphy!

Harry shows Murphy what for.

Then we went to visit Beatrice and Magic. :)

Magic likes Ben because he gives good scratchies.

Bea had stood like that with me for ages, but typically she wandered off as soon as Ben took a photo. :P

Four months and nine days old. <3

Big pony time over, we went to see Pepsi. And lulz ensued.

Pretty mare.

All in all, it was a damn good way to spend a weekend. Much <3 for the glenatron...

How do you look good and normal on the 14.2hh poneh!?

I am 5'6" and feel ridiculous on anything smaller than 15.2hh.

I kno that ponyface is big enough for me and so does he. I think it mostly comes from having ridden some cowhorses. Those guys are little and don't think twice about carrying someone my size for a long time over rocky terrain.

I would be hard pressed to vault onto a shire. I can more or less do it with my horse but he's about a foot less tall. At a pinch I could mount from the ground I reckon, but it would be tricky...

Those are all amazing pictures. :3
And he does make them look small! I know they're big but it's one thing to see them in person. :O

That pond looks like where Merlin put Excalibur. XD
